In a "Halftime Feel", the back beat moves from the usual counts 2 & 4 to count 3. Changing the placement of the back beat makes the groove feel like half the speed – even though the tempo remains the same.

DISCO developed in the 1970's as a soul/funk dance beat popularized in nightclubs called "discotheques". This groove has an upbeat feel and a heavy "four-on-the-floor" bass drum - and can still be heard in almost all pop music recorded today.

A typical rock ballad is in a slow tempo and the feel is 4 beats to a measure with a heavy 16th note ride. Again, the difficulty lies in keeping solid time throughout, even when the chorus becomes loud and exciting (and the guitar player refuses to play the solo in tempo!).

This syncopated rock feel has a driving 8th note ride with syncopated left hand and bass drum beats. The heavier feel of this track moves between a 2&4 backbeat feel in the verse and a heavy downbeat feel in the chorus.

The Samba is most closely associated with the Carnaval Festival held each year the week before Lent.
