Style Essential: 12/8 Rock

The tune used for this style is in a slow, plodding 12/8 rock feel. The drum parts are fairly complex, with lots of ghost notes and other rhythmic devices used to keep the groove moving forward. Stanton demonstrates how, even with all this complexity, the groove can still get a great 3 feel. You’ll also learn how to apply a “Hemiola” in the chorus to get a 2-against-3 feel that’s often used in this style of music.
